MEET JULIE ALLEN

Since 1986, Julie Allen has been carrying her bugs, snakes, lizards and other animal friends throughout California and the Midwest kindling young people’s curiosity and concern for life. Julie’s programs teach students about animals and their environment:  their value; how they adapt to their surroundings; why they are disappearing; and most importantly, what role we each can play in helping to protect wildlife and habitat. She helps people of all ages understand the critical roles that plants and animals play in the survival of our planet.

Julie has been working with animals and young people for over 20 years. Beginning with a career as a licensed Animal Health Technician, she then worked as a Licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator, Zoo Educator, Interpretive Naturalist, co-hosted an award winning show on cable TV and has written elementary school curricula. She has traveled throughout the world, meeting firsthand the people, animals and vanishing habitats she is so passionate about. Since 1995, she has traveled throughout California and the Midwest with Nature’s Critters. When she isn’t caring for her home-based zoo, she is on the road to spread the word about making responsible choices for wildlife.

Julie graduated summa cum laude from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resources-Environmental Studies-Education. She has also earned a Master’s degree in Education-Curriculum and Instruction with a special focus on Environmental Education. She has traveled extensively around the world experiencing first hand the beauty of our natural world and the tragedy of environmental degradation. She is the mother of three boys and has recently relocated to Northern California.

"In the end we will conserve only what we love.
We will love only what we know.
And we will know only what we are taught."
